23:22-- Longtimer: (and i AM KIDDING)
23:23-- Bill: :)
23:24-- Longtimer: I see the GOP moving right as well, but I'm in the middle.....I see more of the left moving left than the right moving right
23:25-- Longtimer: gop being defensive, Libs beinf on the offense
23:25-- Bill: We don't have a left in this country to speak of - we a center and a right - I wish we had a left
23:25-- Longtimer: I completely disagree with that.
23:25-- Bill: We will see where the Demographics take us
23:26-- Bill: Goldwater would be on the left today - he couldn't survive as a Republican - Kennedy on the other hand would still have a home in the Democratic Party
23:28-- Bill: You look who LBJ had to work with in the Senate on the other side - Everett Dirksen - they conspired together to pass civil rights legislation - there is no equivalent Dirksen today, imho
23:28-- Longtimer: I'm right on the fiscal side.......tea party before the gop took it over. Govt live within their means stuff
23:29-- Bill: That's where I was when I voted Reagan 1st time ( I didn't vote for him the 2nd time)
23:29-- Bill: Reagan did just to opposite of what he said regarding the debt and it bugged me - not so much now
23:30-- Bill: I have evolved. Government debt is pretty meaningless - more imporatant is aggregate demand
23:30-- Bill: This is one of those areas that is very difficult to discuss in chat form - but coffee at McDonalds might work
23:31-- Longtimer: yep, I remember....I was voting age in the first go-around
23:31-- Bill: Funny I can remember then but now I can't remember yesterday
23:31-- Longtimer: huge debt resulted because of the cold war, benefit also resulted too
23:31-- Bill: Madcow
23:32-- Longtimer: Billy did a good job balancing everything, but he also didnt have the BS that previous ones had to deal with
23:33-- Longtimer: W did a good job.....I think now everyone';s starting to realize what he had to work with
23:34-- Bill: 41 wasn't bad - I don't have much liking for 43
23:35-- Longtimer: This transparency is hurting Obama, more peeps get word from other sources.
23:36-- Longtimer: 3-4-10 years is a long time for technology.
23:36-- Bill: Lots of things are hurting Barack. He seems too transparent to me. The say "Team of Rivals" and Lincoln in particular has had an effect on his presidential style - personally, I would like him to be a little more Lyndon and a little less Lincoln.
23:37-- Bill: Lincoln's "rivals" were substantial people - they don't exist like that today
23:38-- Bill: I may do a post on "Team of Rivals" - wonderful book
23:38-- Longtimer: the house & senate are listening to the money & not the people. The money is the ones that want to keep people down & reliant on the govt.
23:39-- Bill: yep - I believe in campaign finance reform
23:41-- Longtimer: how about the extreme? ending all lobbying and reinstating the poll tax?
23:41-- Longtimer: crap, sorry I gotta git....I was supposed to leave 10 mins ago
23:42-- Bill: The poll tax is to keep poor people from voting - it is the opposite of what you want -
23:42-- Bill: later
23:52-- yesitsme: James Gandolfini... :_( ... RIP. I'll miss you man.
23:52-- yesitsme: (BIG Sopranos fan)
23:53-- yesitsme: He WAS .. an heart attack waitin' to happen. But at 51 ?!?! That's really sad.
23:55-- yesitsme: NO one else could convey so much with just an expression............
23:55-- yesitsme: Fantastic actor IMO
0:35-- yesitsme: I'm going to wear black for a week - true Italian tradition
0:35-- yesitsme: (well.. really the tradition is to do it longer than that)
2:52-- Bill: Hate to hear
2:52-- Bill: I get an immediate flashback to the last episode
2:53-- Bill: He was there - and then wasn't
4:53-- l8nighter: paraphrasing bill: "no left in this country, just center and right"... "hillary clinton on supreme court" ... "government debt is meaningless"... my skin has absolutely crawled off my body
6:28-- Bill: aye - it's a very red town in a very red state - over the next few years, you might get use to it
6:35-- l8nighter: there are plenty of blue states bill, you could always pick one of those
6:36-- l8nighter: As for obama in berlin, he went from an earlier 200,000 spontaneous, standing cheering audience to 4,500 hand picked viewers waving flags and clapping on queue, all seated in front of high white walls to block out protesters and himself behind bullet proof glass. Says it all really what he might have been and what he has become.
6:38-- l8nighter: now, onward and upward to africa at a cost of over 100m.... but "goverment debt is meaningless"
6:40-- l8nighter: and tell detroit bond holders about meaningless government debt.
6:42-- Bill: Wingnut radio will rot your brain - see above about invited guest
6:44-- l8nighter: are you arguing "invited" vs "hand selected"?
6:44-- Bill: on government debt - it doesn't mean much when a country issues fiat currency but what does mean something is aggregate demand - I could paraphrase Cheney - "Reagan proved debt doesn't matter" but that is really just a cheap shot
6:45-- l8nighter: i could quote biden, but i wont.
6:45-- Bill: more important is to understand that a country that issues fiat money isn't like debt and the larger problem is unproductiveness during a recession that leads to loss of real wealth
6:46-- Bill: If you have an interest, Galbraith at UT is a leading proponent of modern monetary theory
6:46-- Bill: You might remember his father - John Kenneth Galbraith from the Kennedy days
6:47-- l8nighter: seriously? galbraith? ... im out, good night
6:48-- Bill: Edit: a country that issues fiat money isn't like [personal] debt
6:48-- Bill: Night
6:48-- l8nighter: give it up bill
6:48-- Bill: Pardon?

I love downtown, but I'll love it more when there are really places to eat and shop along Bois D'Arc..not just hair salons and lawyers. Someday our downtown will truly rock--but it is a process We will get there though!

Maybe we need a searchlight to help people find downtown. Anyone here remember when something special was going on there would be a big ol' searchlight and people would go to it to see what was happening.
