Madres' Cocina celebrating 15 years in Forney with week full of fun

Madres' Cocina owners Sherri and Billy Garza opened their Mexican restaurant 15 years ago in Forney and they have lived in the community for 37 years. 15 years ago they were the only sit down restaurant in town. Things have changed tremendously in Forney since then, but Madres' has persevered through the tough times and they have planned a week of fun to celebrate their big 15 year anniversary.

Sheri Garza catered for many years before stepping into the restaurant business. She said, “It's been really good, definitely a journey. We used all our savings and retirement money to open it. The first night we had a line out the door, but after that, we had months where it was so slow I cried. We made it though, we learned from our mistakes and the customers started coming again.” Costumers have continued to come to Madres' for good food and a sense of community. The Garza family has come up with a week of specials and activities to thank the Forney community for their support through the years. Discounts, freebies, contests, and even a night with free beers and margaritas with food purchases are planned for August 27 through September 1.

Celebration Schedule For Madres' Cocina

Monday, Aug 27 is “Mustache Monday.” Kids eat free and there will be free balloons and ice cream for the youngsters, as well as free funny mustaches given out. For every dinner you purchase your Madres punch card will be punched twice. All week long there will be a spinning wheel set up with prizes up for grabs.

Tuesday, August 28 is “Taco Tuesday.” They will be rolling back the prices to 1998 and selling tacos for .98 cents each. You will also receive 15 % off all food purchases.

Wednesday, August 29 is a big day at Madres' Cocina. Locks of Love will be there to accept donations and a specially wrapped “Cancer Car” will be on display as well as a sprint car, a modified race car and others. The Cancer Car is a hot pink, sport modified, and has 28 pictures of people who have battled or are currently battling cancer. Raffle tickets to win the Cancer Car are available at Madres' for $10 and the drawing will be on October 20. You need not be present to win. All proceeds benefit the BKM Foundation in Dallas.

Thursday, August 30 is “Spirit Night.” Wear your school colors and get 15% off your meal. There will also be free balloons and ice cream for the kids.

Friday, August 31 is your chance to enjoy free beers and margaritas with your dinner. They will also be providing ice cream and balloons for any children coming in on Friday.

Saturday, September 1 is “Spectacular Saturday.” A tamale eating contest is taking place at noon, with some local VIP's participating! Participants include Mayor Darren Rozell, Fire Chief Rick Townsend, Council Member Mary Penn, School Superintendent Michael Holland, Dr. Wesley Wilson, and more. The winner will get a free meal each month at Madres for one year. There will also be face painters and balloons for kids.

If you are a true Madres' Cocina fan and you eat there every day of their celebration, your name will be entered to win a free night's stay at the Forney Best Western Plus Christopher Inn & Suites, two tickets to a show at the Spellman Amphitheater, and a free meal at Madres.

Thank you Madres' for all you do for Forney. A special thank you for helping me raise and feed my son since he was four years old now 19. The only little boy in town that would wear his tiger tail up to Madres' to eat. Madres' knows who it is you did a fine job of helping me as he become a good honest young man. This is our favorite place to eat and brings back so many memories each time we walk though your doors. We still come in to bond as a mother and son and see our AWESOME friends...

    Thank you so much!
