Lucas Janda, the Chief Financial Officer for the District, presented the proposed budget to the board at the meeting. Janda explained that the budget detailed that the District would operate on a $54.97 million operating budget for the upcoming school year. Janda also added that the budget is approximately $3.23 million less than the 2011-12 budget and $4.48 million less when considering the loss of Education Jobs Funds.
“The goal of this budget process has been to protect the integrity of the classroom,” said Forney ISD Superintendent of School Michael Holland. “Some programs in the District have been modified, but none of them have been dropped. We will continue to offer the same programs next year that we have offered in the past.”
The 2012-2013 approved budget for the District is revenue neutral despite $2.5 million in reductions from both state and federal funding. In addition, the budget did not require a reduction in force from the District.
“I do not anticipate any financial relief from the State Legislature when they convene in the spring of 2013,” Janda explained.
The Board is scheduled to adopt the tax rate for the District at a later date once the District receives the 2012 tax year certified values from the Kaufman County Appraisal District (CAD).
