Five back to school tips Forney teachers want parents to know

The Forney ISD schools will be back in session as of August 27, 2012. Though parents are already scrambling to buy school supplies and uniforms, there are a few things that teachers really want parents to think about before their kids head back to school.

A good backpack is key!

Students need a good backpack. It's a huge responsibility to have homework, books, papers to sign, teacher notes, and more to bring home. A proper backpack can ensure those items are not lost. Make sure the pack is not too heavy for your child and consider having them use  a rolling backpack to give their backs a break!

Should I meet my child's teacher?

The number one tip teachers want parents to follow is to make sure you get to know your child's teachers. Those instructors will be a big part of your kids life throughout the new school year. The student's school experience will be enhanced if there is a strong bridge of communication between the parents and teachers.

Can I trust my child's teacher?

You should, and you should be trustworthy in return. If you are communicating with the teacher, you should know that the teacher has the same goal as you, to help your child succeed at school. Parent/teacher relationships can be just as important as the teacher/student relationship. If you just cannot have a good relationship with your child's teacher, you probably need to speak with the school principal and request a different teacher.

Is your angel really an angel?

Sometimes how a child acts at home, is not how they act at school. Keep an open mind when a teacher wants to discuss your child's behavior and by all means, make the discussion a respectful one.

What do I do if my child is being bullied at school?

Forney ISD has a no tolerance policy when it comes to student violence. No one wants their child to be sent to an alternative class. If bullying is occurring, make sure your child knows to tell an adult about what is happening. If they tell you, make the school aware of the bullying.

The 2012-2013 FISD school year can be a wonderfully memorable time for students, teachers, and parents, if all three work together to make it so. FISD has more than 8,000 enrolled students, but they are committed to making sure Forney students get a top-notch education. Forney ISD has been rated as an Exemplary District and they welcome you to visit their website for more information about the upcoming school year.
