Forney's Mayor Rozell experiences intersection closure first hand Featured

roadclosedthumb

It finally happened. The entire intersection at FM 548 and FM 741 in Forney was closed down as of 5:10 p.m. on Friday March 9, 2012. The closure is expected to last until March 19 when FISD schools reopen after spring break.

Four Forney police officers assisted in detouring traffic as the road construction crew quickly set up barricades. It was fortunate that the FPD officers were on scene because the construction crew was attempting to set up the barricades in such a manner that they would have completely blocked off access to the Kickapoo Trace Center. The crew insisted that they needed more room to work, but police quickly explained that blocking the entrance to the businesses was not an option.

The owners of Quattro Tasti and Dippin' Dave's Ice Cream Shoppe were on hand to watch the intersection shut down. They hope that their customers will make the effort to take the detours and support Kickapoo Trace during the spring break intersection closure. Mayor Darren Rozell and his wife showed up at Quattro Tasti within an hour of the road closure to have dinner and offer their support.

The Mayor also took immediate notice of the traffic that was attempting to use the Kickapoo Trace parking lot as a shortcut around the barricades. As there is only one entrance and one exit, there is no short cut. Vehicles were speeding through the parking lot in a dangerous manner, which prompted Mayor Rozell to notify the Forney PD to put a stop to it. An officer returned to the parking lot and immediately began notifying incoming cars that there was no other exit in the lot.

The Forney EDC has provided a detour map to assist residents who are looking for a way to get to the Kickapoo Trace Center businesses. Please see map below.kickapootrace

Yeah, if they had not been speeding, it would have been laughable. The good news is, now those cars know what businesses are in the Kickapoo Trace Center, and hopefully they will come back and park! ;-)

[Except for the danger of their speed] I thought the part about cars trying to shortcut through the lot was hilarious. BURN!
