Forney Arts Council highlights house concerts and new amphitheater

brentbashamthumbThe monthly Forney Arts Council meeting was held on March 19, 2012 at the Crumbzz Tasting Pavilion and Gallery of the Arts in downtown Forney. New art work is on the walls and beautiful pottery adorns the shelves. Much of the art being displayed at Crumbzz is for sale, while some pieces are being displayed from private collections. Ten percent of the art sales funds go to the Forney Art Council.

During the meeting, FAC member Liz Lawless was nominated for and accepted the position of Fundraising Director for the FAC. Liz is also a member of inForney.com and is a published author.

The FAC members discussed the interest that Quattro Tasti deli has in displaying and selling the art work of local artists. The wonderful deli is located in the Kickapoo Trace Center on FM 741 and FM 548. They have a tremendous amount of wall space that will be perfect for displaying visual art.

Members also spoke about plans for a Forney Art Festival in fall 2012. They intend to visit other art festivals in the coming months and to make contact with a number of artists who would be interested in displaying and selling a variety of art work. An art festival would be a tremendous addition to the Forney community and it is just another example of how far the FAC has come in just a short period of existence.

Another example of Forney's cultural expansion is the new Spellman Amphitheater that has a scheduled grand opening date of May 26, 2012. The possibilities are endless for performances at the 5,000 seat amphitheater that will be located inside the Forney Community Park.

Another FAC Live House Concert will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 7 p.m. The Brent Bassham Guitar Concert will be at a historical home in Forney located at 400 S. Center Street. Concert tickets are available for $10 and can be purchased through the FAC website. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.

The Forney Arts Council has numerous plans for future fundraising activities, art classes, member benefits, art displays, and house concerts.
