Tornado touches down April 3, 2012 in Forney, Texas causing significant damage to Diamond Creek subdivision Featured

At approximately 3:35 p.m. today April 3, 2012, a tornado touched down in a once quite neighborhood causing chaos and fear.  The neighborhood of Diamond Creek was ground zero for the majority of the damage Forney, TX saw today.  A combination of terrible weather and the local cell towers being overwhelmed left many wondering about there loved ones and friends.  As you will see from the pictures many homes were left without roofs and a couple were completely leveled. It has also been confirmed that a secondary tornado spiraled in downtown Forney causing damage to several of the area businesses. We will post additional information about this in the coming hours, stay tuned.

Crosby Elementary in the Diamond Creek subdivision sustained damage to the roof and south side of the building resulting in the schools closure Tuesday April 4, 2012. Crews immediatly began repairs on the roof and campus when the weather calmed. It is not clear yet whether the campus will be open on Wednesday for classes or if it will need to remain closed. Thanks to quick and smart thinking from the ISD they were able to route all outgoing buses from the campus to Forney High School for cover.

Although in the immediate line of the tornado that touched down in Diamond Creek, the North Forney High School campus is said to have received little to no damage. All schools were on lock down at the time of the storms.
Please read below for official updates on this natural disaster and for ways you can help out the people affected by it.
