Nothing beautifies a community like trees. On Thursday, May 10, 2012, the Kaufman County Urban Forester teamed up with Texas Trees Foundation, TXU Energy, and UNFI, to plant a ceremonial tree at Crosby Elementary School in Forney. The Chinquapin oak tree was planted on campus, not far from a small tree that somehow survived the EF-3 tornado that destroyed homes in the Diamond Creek neighborhood. Many more trees are going to be planted in October.
Although the excitement and chaos surrounding the April 3rd Tornado that hit Forney has calmed for most, there are still months of recovery ahead. The families affected are still dealing with the day-to-day inconveniences of being without a home, loss of possessions, and the emotional toll inflicted on their families. These hardships are something the victims will not soon forget.

At approximately 3:35 p.m. today April 3, 2012, a tornado touched down in a once quite neighborhood causing chaos and fear. The neighborhood of Diamond Creek was ground zero for the majority of the damage Forney, TX saw today. A combination of terrible weather and the local cell towers being overwhelmed left many wondering about there loved ones and friends. As you will see from the pictures many homes were left without roofs and a couple were completely leveled. It has also been confirmed that a secondary tornado spiraled in downtown Forney causing damage to several of the area businesses.
