The event was kicked off with a welcoming message from Mayor Rozell. Then the Pledge of Allegiance was directed by Isaac Stevens from local Troop 1007, followed by the Star Spangled Banner by the Crosby Elementary Choir.
The Forney Economic Development Corporation did a great job putting together this event. Several other groups were in attendance volunteering to help with registration and other tasks including the Lions Club, the Z-Bra Girls, and Team Velocity.
The 1-mile fun run was a tad shorter than expected as excited runners turned around on the wrong cone, making for a very quick time!
Runners began taking their places at the starting line preparing for the 5k. Many racers came from as far away as Columbia, Missouri. The countdown began and the racers were off. In what seemed like no time at all, Jose Lopez of Rockwall crossed the finish line with an astonishing 16:47.4 time, with a pace of 5:25 per mile. Jose Lopez finished as the Male Open Winner and overall #1 place for the 4th Annual Main Street 5K. Other notable winners were Mark Conaway of Forney who finished as the Male Masters Winner and a time of 21:41.1; The Female Open Winner was Kaylyn Hall of Forney with a time of 24:30.4; The Female Masters Winner was Marcy Odom with a time of 25:05.2.
Awards were presented by Mayor Rozell alongside council members James Hatley and Mary Penn, and EDC Board Members Ray Stephens and Jennifer Helms.
Race Chip Timing of McKinney provided all the chipping and timing for the event. All the other times and places can be found at the Main Street 5K results page HERE. Brookshire's was the title sponsor for the event providing water and oranges for runners as they crossed the finish line.
