Arrested was William Charles Joseph Smith, 29, of Kaufman. Smith also had two outstanding warrants out of Kaufman Police Department
The altercation was alleged to have started over the suspect not paying rent. As the altercation escalated, Smith stabbed a family member in the abdomen. Smith then fled to a nearby residence. Sheriff’s deputies quickly located the suspect and took him into custody. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Smith was arrested without incident and transported to the Kaufman County Law Enforcement Center, where bond is set at $250,492.00.
