The City of Forney received their first partial reimbursement payment from TxDOT during the week of May 13, 2013. The reimbursement is a payment for the city’s use of the Pass Through Toll funding program used to make major road improvements to FM 548 at US Hwy 80, FM 741, and FM 740.

Forney, Texas -- On Monday, May 20, 2013, the Forney Police Department began investigating a report of an attempted child abduction at Rhea Elementary in Forney ISD. The incident was reported after school hours and was reported to have taken place at approximately 8:00 p.m.

On May 21, 2013, Kaufman County Election officials recounted the votes for the Place 4 seat on the Forney City Council. The unofficial results on May 11, 2013, showed newcomer Scott Regan defeating incumbent James Hatley by a mere two votes, 560 votes to 558 votes.

A district-wide early release is not planned for Forney ISD during the inclement weather conditions on May 21, 2013, according to Forney ISD spokesperson Larry Coker. The district will however allow parents that are home, or available, to pick up their children early from school.

38-year-old Lester Zavala suffered a debilitating stroke on April 24, 2013, that left the left side of his body in a state of paralysis and he has been unable to return to work. Zavala's family – wife Brandi and five children – will be holding a fundraiser on Monday night, May 20, 2013, at Chic-fil-A from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

As a recount for the Forney City Council Place 4 looms, the other candidates running in the May 11 Election were sworn into office. Forney City Secretary Dorothy Brooks swore in the winning candidates after the results of the mayoral race, City Council Place 2, and City Council Place 6 were canvassed and certified.

Mayor Pro-Tem James Hatley filed a petition to recount the votes in the May 11 Election for Place 4 on the Forney City Council. Hatley was challenged for his seat by candidate Scott Regan who won the election 560 votes to 558 votes – a difference of only two votes.
