Forney's first ever run-off election is between Council Member Mary Penn and candidate Jennifer Helms for Forney City Council Place 5.  Election day voting will end at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday night, June 12th, 2012.  The only polling location open for this runoff election was the Sub-Courthouse in Forney, but the ballots will still need to travel to the Kaufman County Courthouse where they will be counted.

Two seemingly qualified candidates are facing a run-off election against each other for the Place 5 seat in the Forney City Council. Early voting has ended and election day is set for Tuesday, June 12 at the Forney Sub-Courthouse. Incumbent Mary Penn and her opponent, Jennifer Helms both agreed to answer seven questions that Forney residents want to know, so that the voters can make an educated decision as to who they will vote for next week.

Forney City Council candidate Jennifer Helms gave an exclusive statement to inForney.com regarding her position as the Director of the Layden Senior Citizen Center and the Meals on Wheels program. Helms has been under scrutiny after one senior citizen made public accusations of financial impropriety against her. Though Helms has a large number of supporters at the senior center, the political climate became so heated that it was deemed necessary for Helms and the KCSCI Board to part ways.

Just last week Forney City Council candidate Jennifer Helms was publicly accused of misusing her position as the Director of the Layden Senior Center.  Helms wanted to respond to the allegations, which she feels are primarily being made because she is running for Forney City Council. She explained that she was limited in what questions she could respond to because her employers at Kaufman County Senior Citizens Services do not want the Layden Senior Center or the seniors to be caught in the middle of this fight.
