Members of the Kaufman County community gathered at the Kaufman Courthouse at noon on Monday, April 8, to watch a special U.S. flag be raised in memory of slain D.A. Mike McLelland and his wife Cynthia. The same U.S. Honor Flag that flew for Assistant D.A. Mark Hasse will now fly for a 24 hour period to honor the McLellands.

It was a cold and windy day at Forney Community Park for Metro East Softball Association's Opening Day ceremonies on April 6, 2013. According to MESA President Jeff Fudge, there were nearly 35 teams, out of approximately 53 teams in the league, present for the ceremonies.

The Texas Rangers arrested Robert Allan Miller, 52, of Terrell, Texas, on April 4, 2013, for making terroristic threats against another assistant district attorney in Kaufman County. The arrest makes the second arrest this week for individuals making threats against county officials since the murders of Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife Cynthia McLelland on
March 31, 2013.

Over 1000 people came to the First Baptist Church of Sunnyvale on Thursday to remember Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his much beloved wife, Cynthia. The popular Forney couple were killed in cold blood just five days ago, and the feelings of sorrow, disbelief, and anger were still fresh on the minds of the mourners.

Texas Governor Rick Perry spoke at a press conference the morning of April 4, 2013, in the Kaufman County Courthouse. Governor Perry announced the Governor's Office is offering an additional $100,000 reward in the now three unsolved murders in Kaufman County.

Nick Morale, 56, of Terrell, Texas, was arrested on April 2, 2013 on charges of making a terrorist threat against a public official. According to the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office, Morale called the Kaufman County Crime Stoppers tip line on April 1, at 1:43 p.m. and threatened that an unidentified county official would be the “next victim”. The call came just two days after Kaufman County D.A.
Mike McLelland and his wife Cynthia were shot and killed inside their Forney home.

On April 3, 2012, the lives of many Forney residents was greatly changed. On that day an F-3 tornado tore through the city of 15,000 plus residents. It caused damage in downtown, tore roofs and signs from businesses along Highway 80, nearly destroyed the
Forney Food Pantry, and then ripped houses from their foundation in the Diamond Creek subdivision. Unbelievably, despite the destruction, no lives were lost.

Texas Governor Rick Perry has directed State offices to fly the United States flag and State of Texas flag at half-staff on Thursday, April 4, 2013, in honor of murdered Kaufman County District Attorney
Mike McLelland and his wife Cynthia. Thursday was chosen because a public memorial will be held that day for the McLellands at the Sunnyvale First Baptist Church in Mesquite, Texas at 1 p.m. Governor Perry will speak at the memorial.

WFAA report, an interim District Attorney has been named to take over the D.A. job in Kaufman County until Governor Rick Perry can appoint a new D.A. to replace Mike McLelland. Assistant District Attorney Brandi Fernandez has been serving as a prosecutor in the 86th District Court, but will fill in as the Kaufman D.A. for at least the next three weeks.

Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife Cynthia McLelland. The couple were found shot to death inside their Forney home in the Shamrock Ridge addition near FM 1641 and Helms Trail.
