A public transportation meeting was held at the Star Transit facility in Terrell on Wednesday, March 20, 2013. The North Texas Council of Governments (NCTOG) is heading up a countywide “needs assessment” to address public transportation concerns in Kaufman County. Approximately 20 citizens attended the meeting, including Kaufman County Judge Bruce Wood.

The $2 million
Revenue Bond Project that began as a Forney EDC plan to help revitalize downtown, has been tabled by the Forney City Council due to being too far apart with the Forney ISD on a bid to buy all or part of the FISD building located at 309 S. Bois D'arc. The building currently acts as an alternative education program campus.

A kick-off rally on March 19, signified the beginning of the first Community Rewards program in Forney, Texas, sponsored by City Bank Texas. Five nonprofit organizations will be selected based on an online balloting system voted on by Forney area residents.

The Forney City Council voted unanimously on March 19, 2013 to approve the final plat for the planned upscale apartment complex, The Cedars at Gateway. The property is 14.317 acres that is located in the Meadow Ridge Farm Planned Development district. The apartments will be located east of FM 548, north of Highway 80, and south of Reeder Lane.

The Layden Senior Center began offering caregiver education and support groups for caregivers. The educational classes and support groups will be held on the last Monday of each month at the Layden Senior Center in Forney, Texas.

Calls for service dropped from January to February 2013 for the Forney Fire Department, though having three less days in the month did contribute to that decline. The Forney Police Department also saw a slight decrease in calls for service from January to February.

Both lanes of eastbound traffic on US Hwy 80 are closed just past FM 460 due to an accident involving a jackknifed 18-wheeler. The accident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, March 19, and the Forney Fire Department estimated the roadway will re-open around 10:40 a.m.

North Forney High School's MaKayla Durham won the 4A State Championship in powerlifting at the state meet on March 15, 2013. The state meet was held in Corpus Christi, Texas.

A team of Forney High School engineering students in Forney High School's Project Lead the Way program won Verizon's Web App Design Competition. The students first competed at the state level and received Best in State. Later, they took part in a live webinar and presented their app design to a panel of judges.
