In Her Own Words
"Before Genesis Center North Texas, I spent most of my years chasing temporary fixes and trapped in a relentless cycle where true peace could not exist. My life was saturated in sin, including a marriage that — after 20 years — had become loveless and distorted by addiction. This wasn’t a result of being inherently evil; it was the result of being fundamentally broken. My heart was full of holes left by trauma, bad decisions, and a crushing sense of worthlessness.
I had built my home on sand; and with each passing storm, I eventually reached total collapse. The brokenness became so heavy to carry that my definition of a good day was simply surviving the bad decisions from the day before. I no longer recognized the person looking back at me in the mirror. I knew I needed a change, but the chains felt impossible to break. I had given up on a meaningful life and settled for just existing.
Not knowing what else to do, I brought my confusion and chaos to the altar and laid it at the feet of Jesus. I invited Him into my heart. Soon after, clarity came for the first time in years, and I knew Genesis Center North Texas was exactly where I needed to be.
Walking through the door felt like entering another universe. From the moment I arrived, I felt no judgment — only peace. The transformation wasn’t instant. It was tedious, tearful, and at times terrifying as years of walls came crashing down. But that’s when true healing began.
I wasn’t just in a program — I found a home. Genesis gave me a safe place to rebuild on a solid foundation with Jesus as the cornerstone. God used the women around me — former residents, the director Ms. Amanda, staff, volunteers, and teachers — to show me what faith lived out daily looks like. They saw the broken girl I was but spoke into the woman I was becoming. I learned to trust, to be vulnerable, and to forgive. Through loving correction and constant encouragement, I began to believe God’s promises were for me too.
The woman who walked into Genesis was seeking escape. The woman who walked out is now embracing a full life closer to God. The sin that once defined me is now a testimony of His grace and redemption. I have real purpose, real hope, healthy relationships, and even complete restoration of my marriage.
I didn’t survive at Genesis. I was reborn there."
